Hello Friends and Family 👋

Welcome to the August edition of my Monthly Newsletter! As we start to see the waning days of summer approach and the school year soon to begin, I'm excited to share some recent experiences, achievements, and insights with you. Let's dive in!

🏖️🩴🦞 Vacation Update

I had the opportunity to take a much-needed vacation with my family in July, and it was the perfect way to recharge, reconnect with nature, and see old friends. We spent two weeks along the coast in balmy Massachusetts. Beaches, ice cream, and of course, lob-stah! I write more about my experience and the trip in detail here

Climatebase Fellowship Acceptance

I am thrilled to announce that while I was on vacation, I was informed that I got accepted into the Climatebase Fellowship, a 12-week industry-oriented educational program that helps accelerate the careers of people looking to get into the climate space (ahem... ME!). This opportunity will allow me to collaborate with other passionate individuals working towards innovative climate solutions. I'm eager to share more about this journey with you all soon!!

🌍Sustainability Corner: United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals

One of the things I recently learned about is how the United Nations has been playing a huge part in the effort to fight the climate crisis. They have outlined the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which serve as a blueprint for achieving a better and more sustainable future. These goals address global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. I highly recommend you read about each goal and see where you may be able to insert yourself into the larger conversation

Productivity Tip

I like Ike!

It was the great US General and later President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, who famously said: “I have two kinds of problems, the urgent and the important. The urgent are not important, and the important are never urgent.”

Many leaders have adopted what is known as the Eisenhower Matrix. This is a 2×2 square that helps you categorize tasks based on urgency and importance, allowing you to focus on what truly matters. Here's how it works:

  • Quadrant 1: Urgent and Important: Do these tasks immediately.

  • Quadrant 2: Important, but Not Urgent: Schedule these tasks.

  • Quadrant 3: Urgent, but Not Important: Delegate these tasks if possible.

  • Quadrant 4: Neither Urgent nor Important: Consider eliminating these tasks entirely.

Resource of the Month

Last month, I finished the book Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us by Daniel Pink. We often think about getting promoted or moving up in our careers as a result of some kind of carrot/stick approach. However, Pink argues that true motivation comes from within, driven by three key elements: 1) autonomy (the desire to direct our own lives), 2) mastery (the urge to get better at something that matters), and 3) purpose (the yearning to do what we do in service of something larger than ourselves).

I share notes on this book along with several other industry books I’ve read on a public whiteboard I encourage you all to check out. You can access it here:

Thank you for your continued support and engagement. I look forward to sharing more updates and insights with you next month. Here's to an inspiring August filled with growth, discovery, and meaningful connections.

Stay inspired and grounded,
