June Insights: Embracing the Future but Being Present

Technology, Sustainability, and Personal Growth

Hello Friends and Family,

Welcome to another edition of my Monthly Newsletter. To view the web version of this issue, click here.

Each month, I report on my activities in technology, sustainability, and personal development to help keep you informed on my latest insights and experiences. Additionally, I provide tips and tricks to enhance your productivity and personal growth.

In this month's edition, we explore my latest tech conference attendance and how entrepreneurs can integrate sustainability into their business strategies. I also include my regular productivity tips and a brief personal anecdote. So let's get started!

Embracing the Future of Technology 🤲💾💿📱

I recently attended the “Create the Future Summit,” which was a really interesting experience for me. I came in as a “journalist” wanting to write more about tech but being there reinforced the importance of embracing technological advancements while being cautious and mindful of our present relationship with tech. It's crucial for us all to strike a balance between our connection to technological advancements and our own well-being. You can read the article I published on my experience at the conference here:

Let’s Pause for Quick Productivity Tip: S.T.O.P and Think!

As drivers, we hate it when we are seamlessly moving through our city or town but suddenly come to a halting stop. That big, bright red sign is clearly a visual aid to grab our attention, but it’s important to understand why they are there. Of course, stop signs are designed to keep us safe. Taking this mentality into the professional setting, I like to use the same principles of a stop sign to pause and reflect before speaking. In many situations where I feel like I’m speaking before I’m thinking, I've come to rely on the S.T.O.P. framework to guide my conversations. The framework is:

  • S – STOP

  • T – Take a step back

  • O – Observe

  • P – Proceed Mindfully

Using this approach can lead to more thoughtful and impactful communication.

Insights on Going “Green” to Scale up an Organization

For aspiring entrepreneurs looking to go green, creating a sustainability-focused organization is both a responsibility and an opportunity. I recently wrote an article on how entrepreneurs like myself and other aspiring leaders can integrate sustainable practices into their business models, ensuring that operations not only thrive but also contribute positively to the environment.

Learning and Growing Along with the Job Market

The past 10 months of job searching have been a period of serious self-reflection of wondering I can stay relevant in this competitive job market. The thing that always comes to mind is to continue building skills in whatever field you work in. For me, a notable milestone was completing a 6-month learning path on LinkedIn Learning, which focused on the fundamentals of AI and Machine Learning. While I will admit, some of the technical content was challenging, I learned a lot valuable insights on AI subjects such as Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and even learned a little basic Python programming language.

Resource of the Month: "The Age of Magical Overthinking" by Amanda Montell

I recently finished reading “The Age of Magical Overthinking” by Amanda Montell. The book, coming from the perspective of a young(ish) Millenial (younger than me okay??), who explores various biases we hold such as confirmation bias, sunk cost bias, and others by encouraging readers to reflect on their own thought processes. One interesting highlight she talks about is the ”Ikea Effect,” something we can all take a page out of by challenging ourselves on how we value things we create for ourselves. This book is a great read for anyone looking to understand and challenge their own biases.

That’s all for this month!

Thank you for your continued support and engagement. Here's to a July filled with growth, discovery, and meaningful connections.

Stay inspired and grounded,
